What if you could put on a set of clothes that made you feel unique, confident, and united? That's the energy Author Ann Brashares channeled in her cult classic novel, "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants."
If you aren't familiar with the plot, I'll give you a quick run down. Basically, there are four high school friends who find a pair of "magical" jeans. Despite being different sizes, the jeans seemingly fit all four friends and look fantastic. (I bet we are all thinking, damn, to have a pair of pants like that!) The girls go their separate ways over the summer, but promise to send the pants to each other so they can share confidence through the "magical" pants. The novel is a coming of age gem that highlights girlhood to womanhood.
Jeans are all fine and good, but what about overalls? We thought it would be clever to get more gals outside through the power of the traveling overalls. We are sending a couple of our fancy-dancy pairs to women all around town with adventure in mind. Through the collective ideology behind "Sisterhood" and feeling good in the clothes you wear, the overalls promote confidence in a space that often isn't all that welcoming to women.
According to the Love Her Wild Survey, 64% of women have felt uncomfortable, dismissed, and insulted in outdoor spaces. And 55% of women attribute the biggest barrier to getting outdoors to a lack of confidence. Helio wants to change that. Being outside and enjoying nature is an important part of being mentally and physically well. It's a space that everyone should feel like they can belong in. We know that a pair of jazzed-out overalls won't be able to change this alone, but with community and good vibes, we believe that we can alter the way we get outdoors.
